A new fence is like a new kitchen or bathroom, or fitting double-glazing - you don’t do it often so it should be seen as an investment rather than a cost. You will look at your fence for years to come, and it will become part of the structure around which you design your garden, which is why we always recommend fitting the best you can afford. If you want to cover the fence with climbers, you should consider strength before design because of the weight. If you intend growing large plants or a hedge close to it, longevity may be the most important factor, because you will not want to risk damaging your plants in a few years if it needs replacing or repairing.

For long life, we recommend galvanising your railings and gates, before powder coating or painting them, to stop them rusting. In our factory on the Dorset/Wiltshire border we hand-make railing and gates to order, either to be fitted by us or by yourself or your fencing contractor or builder.
